Our History
The Ifakara Innovation Hub (IIH) was initially established in 2019 as a project under the Ifakara Health Institute (IHI). Inspired by the rural Tanzania community in which the Ifakara Health Institute exists, the project sought to seek solutions that not only better their access to good health but also improve their livelihood as a whole.
We have since been supported generously by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and Fondation Botnar, and bolstered by a wide network of local and international partners, including other local and international hubs, government and its respective agencies. IIH aims to bridge the gap between research and practical application by leveraging these collaborations. Over the years, IIH has become a beacon of development, contributing to the economic and social upliftment of Ifakara through various innovative projects and collaborations with both local and international stakeholders.
