The Problem
In Tanzania, approximately 106 newborns die every day before reaching their first month of life. According to a 2015 report by UNICEF, 57.2% of these deaths are linked to a decrease in body temperature, primarily due to prematurity. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for effective interventions to address the vulnerability of premature infants, who often lack the necessary body fat to regulate their temperature and are more susceptible to hypothermia, which can lead to fatal complications.
Our Solution
Currently, imported warmers are often expensive to maintain, frequently broken, second-hand, and not suited for limited-resource settings. LIRA provides an affordable, locally-made solution that is easy to use and user-friendly, offering a practical alternative to costly imported warmers. LIRA was created by Neohealth Innovations.
